inThe new version of Firefox now integrates a PDF reader into the browser. Although the feature was already available in version 18, this had to be activated manually through the configuration. With the internal PDF viewer Mozilla wants to make use of additional plugins from Adobe unnecessary as this as an external component.
The basis for the reader is PDF.js, an HTML5 component that converts normal PDF files in CSS and HTML using JavaScript, and then renders content directly in the browser. Thus, there is no further need to download a plugin, which was required to display PDF content. With the current version 19 PDF.js is an integral part of Firefox. The browser is available for download at Foxload and the current version could be retrieved over the automatic update.
